What I Would Do If I Was MTAC Plumbing’s SEO Director to Dominate Google Search Results

In this article, I will assume the role of the director of SEO at MTAC plumbing and show what valuable steps can be taken to help boost organic traffic and ultimately boost revenue for the business.

Landing Page

The first thing we are going to look at is the main page that the user will land on once they click a link to MTAC Plumbing’s website.

You will see that there is no number where the user and type in their phone and call especially if the user is on a desktop. By having a number visible, it gives the opportunity to both people on phones as well as desktops. By doing so we reduce the steps required to get in touch with MTAC Plumbing.

Suggestion: To have the phone number to call visible to the user instead of click the phone icon.

Keyword Audit for MTAC Plumbing

In order to find which keywords MTAC Plumbing’s website is currently ranking for on Google Search we will be utilizing a paid keyword research tools called Ahrefs.

We see that the company is only rank for 12 keywords out of which one is in the top 3 for the SERPs.

Diving deeper into what these keywords we have the following:

What is quite alarming is that just two keywords bring in the organic traffic. We can also see below that the content on the website is quite thin as a result there are only two pages that rank and attract organic traffic.

So, the first step here would be to write more content where you are strategically targeting keywords which are informative and educational in nature.

These can be used to write blog article.

From the website, we have the following as potential main keywords:

  1. Drain Cleaning
  2. Water Heaters
  3. Pipe Repair
  4. Sump Pumps
  5. Remodeling Services

In order to get a starting point, we will use ChatGPT to help us form a strong keyword database related to plumbing for our blog articles.

Here are some examples of possible blog articles:

  1. What to do when your toilet won’t stop running
  2. Signs you need professional drain cleaning
  3. How to prevent frozen pipes in Kitchener winters
  4. Backwater valve vs sump pump, what’s the difference?
  5. Cost of rough-in plumbing for basement bathroom in Kitchener
  6. How to find a reliable plumber in Kitchener
  7. Do you need a permit for plumbing work in Kitchener?
  8. Why is my water heater making noise?
  9. When should you replace your sump pump?
  10. Best plumbing materials for home renovations

By doing this, we are adding more depth to the website which means we can rank for more keywords on Google and drive more organic traffic.

Suggestion: Publish informative articles addressing common plumbing issues and questions, such as “How to Prevent Frozen Pipes in Ontario Winters” or “Signs Your Water Heater Needs Replacement.”

Develop content that speaks to the specific needs and concerns of the Kitchener-Waterloo community, enhancing local relevance.

Implement a Frequently Asked Questions section to address common customer inquiries, improving user experience and SEO.

Google PageSpeed Insights

While accessibility, best practices and SEO are good.

We see that there is issue with performance of the website on Mobile.

Three things that stand out are First Contentful Paint, Largest Contentful Paint and Speed Index.

Suggestions: There are some steps that can be taken for each one.

First Contentful Paint (10.8s)

  • Minify CSS & defer non-critical JS to reduce render-blocking.
  • Preload fonts and critical CSS for faster first paint.
  • Enable GZIP or Brotli compression to shrink resource size.
  • Use a CDN to deliver content faster.

Largest Contentful Paint(14.0s)

  • Compress and preload the hero image (preferably WebP).
  • Avoid lazy-loading the LCP image (load it immediately).
  • Inline above-the-fold CSS for faster styling.
  • Reduce server response time (TTFB) by optimizing backend.

Speed Index(11.1s)

  • Reduce JavaScript bloat by removing unused scripts.
  • Load non-critical JS using requestIdleCallback().
  • Minimize layout shifts and avoid animations on load.
  • Streamline fonts and avoid heavy page builders.

Technical SEO opportunities

We see that there are 5 pages that are currently indexed on Google.

Word Count

A good classification of thin content is to look for pages with word counts less than 400 words, this can be classified as ‘Thin Content‘.

We see that out of the five pages only two page are over 400 words, this means we will have to strategically add more keywords to the remaining 3 pages.

Suggestion: Go through existing pages with thin content and run it through ChatGPT asking for suggestions on what else should be added to the page so that is optimized for Search Engines.

Page Title

Looking at the below titles, we see that we have the opportunity to add more keywords and value to the existing Title Tags.

Readability

In the SEO context, readability refers to how easy it is for users (and search engines) to read and understand your website content. It’s an important ranking factor because Google prioritizes content that provides a good user experience.

We can see that we have one page where readability is hard and two others where readability is normal.

Suggestion: Use Hemingway Editor to help improve your page content readability.

Conclusion

So these are the first few steps I would take to align MTAC Plumbing on the right path towards ranking higher on the SERPs and bringing in more organic traffic and ultimately generating additional revenue.
